International conference SEDBM 2018 – Sharing hands for sustainable economic development
On 10th November, 2018, Academy of Finance and University of Greenwich (UK) co-hosted an international conference entitled “Sustainable economic development and business management in the context of globalization”, the conference took place at the AOF’s main campus and was attended by over 180 scientists.

There were also attendance of scientists from 22 universities, institutes and leading economists from the Central Economic Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Investment, State Audit Office of Vietnam.

The editorial board received 163 papers among which 136 were accepted for presentation at the conference.

Associate Professor Nguyen Trong Co – AOF President gives opening speech

In his opening speech, Associate Professor Nguyen Trong Co, AOF President reviewed the opportunities and challenges of the globalization and emerging issues that impact dramatically on countries (knowledge economy, the Industrial Revolution 4.0, climate change, global terrorism, trade war, emerging protectionism, etc. which are considered the threats to sustainable development of countries). He pointed out the arising problems namely cross-border e-commerce, base erosion and profit shifting with Panama Papers, Paradise Papers, etc. All of the above-mentioned phenomena show a diversified impact of globalization on the economics and business administration as well as set out new economic issues that need further studies. Hence, this international conference has a considerable and realistic significance in attempt to discover effective measures and responses to these problems.

In addition to the general meeting, the conference sessions were conducted in both English and Vietnamese.

The conference contributions papers had high scientific qualities and focused on theoretical and practical aspects of sustainable development, especially the issues namely: Economics – Business Administration (development of value chain, green economics, equality in financial resource allocation, building sustainable development models, productivity and competitiveness, marketing strategy); Finance (public finance structure and sustainable development, business financial decisions for sustainable development, stock market, legal system of taxation, transfer pricing and financial liberalization); Accounting and Auditing (environmental accounting for social sustainable development, accounting and auditing trend in the context of the industrial revolution 4.0, social responsibility accounting, the disclosure level of corporate social accountability).

The highlights of the conference which had considerable theoretical and practical values: Professor Petros Ieromonachou’s presentation on urban management and business administration in the context of globalization; Professor Alex Stojanovic’s introduction of his research on finance, business, training and research cooperation, sharing knowledge, etc.

A young research of AOF presented her idea of research direction

The first session was chaired by Professor Su Dinh Thanh (CIEM), Associate Professor Le Xuan Ba (CIEM), Associate Professor Nguyen Van Dan (AOF) and Associate Professor Nguyen Tien Thuan (AOF) and was conducted with five contribution topics: Circular economy – the concept and new approaches for the Vietnamese enterprises; Analyzing the determinants of income of public health care units in Bac Giang province using econometric models; Environmental accounting in Vietnamese enterprises – An instrument of sustainable development; Relationship between consumption behavior and minimalism lifestyle of young people in Hanoi.

The second session was chaired by Professor Alex Stojanovic (UOG), Professor Petros Leromonachou (UOG) and Associate Professor Le Xuan Truong (AOF). There were five presentations were made by Mehmet Ugur, Hoang Minh Luong, Truong Van Nguyen, Indah Prihastuti and Yong Lin that attracted special attention and comments of delegates.

The research orientation of AOF researcher groups with topics of behavioral finance, PPP, FDI and higher education development, application of QR in public administrative management, financial autonomy of public agencies and researchers from University of Greenwich were introduced, and by these introductions, the researchers were provided with contacts and details for further collaborations.

The conference Best Papers Awards were conferred to the four authors: Mr. Mehmet Ugur (UOG), Hoang Minh Luong (UOG), Luu Duc Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Hong Van, Dinh Thi Thu Ha, Vu Thuy Linh (AOF), Nhu Trong Bach, Dao Duy Thuan, Mai Xuan Thai, Pham Thi Nga (AOF).

“I am really impressed by this conference due to the valuable contributions and comments of the researchers. These are timely responses to the urgent microeconomic and macroeconomic issues of globalization” said the professor Mehmet Ugur, UOG.

The International Conference SEDBM 2018 is an annual conference to strengthen the scientific research activities of the scientists, it is also a forum for researchers from around the world exchange their experience and set up a research network to deal with global issues in economics and finance.
